Elena Kessler

Elena Kessler covers Europe for GlobalExpressTime, reporting on the politics, culture, and social change reshaping the continent from Eastern Europe to the EU's western capitals. Alongside her regional reporting she writes on the arts and leads much of the newsroom's in-depth, long-form journalism, the kind of reporting that takes weeks rather than hours. She has reported from Kyiv, Warsaw, Budapest, and Berlin, covered the war in Ukraine through its successive stages, and speaks Russian and Polish, giving her coverage a linguistic depth that goes beyond translated statements. She holds a master's degree in European Studies from the Free University of Berlin.
