Braves Score: Padres Complete Sweep 5–2

San Diego completed a three-game sweep of the Atlanta Braves at Petco Park on June 24, 2026, winning 5–2 to send the NL East leaders to their fourth straight loss and tenth defeat in 13 games.

Three Games, One Direction

Manny Machado drove in the only run of the opener with a homer, then ended Game 2 with a first-pitch walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth. Canning needed 40 pitches to record just two outs while allowing four second-inning runs, leaving the Padres' bullpen to cover the remaining eight-plus innings.

Fernando Tatis Jr. had tied that game in the seventh with a 410-foot homer, his third of the season, after an RBI double in the second. Mason Miller retired all six batters he faced across the ninth and tenth innings on June 23, his first completed two-inning appearance as a Padre. Machado's single finished it one pitch into the bottom of the tenth.

June 24 Finale: Sears and France Decide It

JP Sears, recalled from Triple-A El Paso after Lucas Giolito went on the injured list, won his 2026 season debut. He allowed two runs on five hits across 5⅔ innings, striking out five and walking two.

Ty France did the most damage at the plate. He hit a solo homer to left off Martín Pérez leading off the third inning, his ninth of the season, then added a sacrifice fly in the fourth and a double in the sixth. That double scored on Samad Taylor's two-run single, extending San Diego's lead to 5–0. According to MLB's official game story, Xander Bogaerts had also contributed an RBI single in the fifth.

Joey Bart hit a two-run homer in the sixth for Atlanta, scoring Austin Riley from first after a walk. It was Bart's third of the season and his first as a Brave. Jason Adam closed out the ninth for his second save of the year.

Pérez, the losing pitcher, allowed three runs on four hits in four innings, with four walks and four strikeouts. His four-game winning streak ended.

Atlanta's Slump in Numbers

The sweep extended a Petco Park run that had grown painful for Atlanta. San Diego's three wins brought the Braves' consecutive losses at that venue to nine, a streak that began at the 2024 NL Wild Card Series. Across those nine games, the Padres outscored Atlanta 39–19.

Over the 13-game stretch through June 24, the Braves batted .154 with a .432 OPS with runners in scoring position, going 14-for-91. Only five starters had reached the sixth inning across the prior 25 games. Atlanta's record fell to 48–31. The NL East lead, which had stood at 9½ games during an earlier stretch, dropped to 4½ games after the sweep.

Roster Moves, Then a Win at San Francisco

The Braves overhauled their bullpen on June 25. They announced Reynaldo López's return to the starting rotation for a June 26 start at San Francisco, his sixth start and first since late April, with Atlanta planning approximately 60 pitches. The club also activated Tyler Kinley from the injured list, recalled Ian Hamilton from Triple-A Gwinnett, optioned JR Ritchie, and designated Carlos Carrasco for assignment for the fifth time in 2026. Ritchie had walked 14 percent of batters faced across 40⅔ innings. Kinley had posted a 3.18 ERA in 31 appearances this season.

Robert Suarez, initially listed as a game-time decision on June 25 with a sore right forearm, was placed on the 15-day injured list on June 26, retroactive to June 23. An MRI showed no structural damage. Suarez had posted a 0.56 ERA across 31 appearances as Atlanta's top setup man before the injury, according to MLB's injury report.

Atlanta beat San Francisco 3–1 on June 26 with López and Hurston Waldrep combining on the pitching. The win ended the four-game skid and improved the Braves to 49–31. By June 27, Atlanta led the NL East by four games over the Phillies, who sat at 46–36, per MLB's official standings.
