Avengers: Doomsday Cast Leaves Deadpool Unconfirmed
Ryan Reynolds is absent from Marvel and Disney’s official Avengers: Doomsday cast lists, leaving Deadpool’s role unconfirmed despite conflicting reports.

Ryan Reynolds does not appear on the official Disney or Marvel cast pages for Avengers: Doomsday, the Marvel Studios film scheduled for December 18, 2026. The studio cast pages do not confirm Deadpool. Two major trade outlets disagree on whether Reynolds has any role at all, and Reynolds himself told Variety he has not stepped foot on set so the honest answer to the question circulating across search and social is: Wade Wilson remains unconfirmed from any official Marvel or Disney source.
What the Official Cast Actually Shows
Disney's official Avengers: Doomsday movie page lists 28 actors by name. That roster includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach plus a wave of returning X-Men: Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, and Channing Tatum.
Ryan Reynolds is not among them. Wade Wilson is not listed anywhere in the character credits on the Marvel official movie page.
That is the current cast-page answer. Deadpool's presence is not confirmed by the studio.
Why the Situation Is More Complicated Than a Simple No
Deadpool & Wolverine grossed $636.7 million domestically and $701.3 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $1.338 billion the highest-grossing R-rated film in history. That commercial record is exactly why Reynolds' absence from the announced cast drew immediate scrutiny.
The picture since then has been muddier than most coverage acknowledges. In August 2025, The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision newsletter reported that sources confirmed Deadpool would appear in Avengers: Doomsday, though not as part of the Avengers team itself. Deadline countered the same week, with its own sources stating Reynolds was not set to appear in either of the next two Avengers films and had not been seen on set in London. Reynolds, speaking to Variety while promoting a separate project, said he had "not stepped foot" on the Doomsday set adding, with characteristic ambiguity: "We'll see what happens there."
Kevin Feige had previously signalled at CinemaCon that the March 2025 cast announcement was not the complete roster. That caveat keeps the door open. It has not been walked through officially.
The Confirmed Headline: Downey Returns as Doom
The verified news driving Doomsday coverage is Robert Downey Jr.'s return as Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom, not as Tony Stark. Marvel's official teaser article confirmed his new role, and the Walt Disney Company's CinemaCon 2026 recap placed Doom at the centre of exclusive footage screened for exhibitors.
Anthony and Joe Russo direct the film. Stephen McFeely is the writer listed on Disney's official pages. The Russo Brothers previously directed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

The X-Men Crossover Is Real and Announced
One confirmed element drawing similar fan attention to the Deadpool question: the X-Men crossover is listed by Disney. Patrick Stewart's Professor X, Ian McKellen's Magneto, James Marsden's Cyclops, and Rebecca Romijn's Mystique are all confirmed on Disney's cast listing.
Romijn's character is Raven Darkhölme the blue-skinned shapeshifter she played across four X-Men films between 2000 and 2011. Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con in 2025, Romijn confirmed she had filmed scenes for the production, describing her return as "very surreal" and "unexpected." She also disclosed that the script had not been fully completed at the point she was shooting.
Four official teasers ran in late 2025 and early 2026 on December 23, December 30, January 6, and January 13 each spotlighting a different part of the ensemble before the first full public trailer arrived on July 20, 2026.
How to Watch It: Infinity Vision Explained
Disney used CinemaCon 2026 to announce Avengers: Doomsday as a centrepiece of its Infinity Vision premium large-format push. Disney describes Infinity Vision as a certification framework for premium large-format theatres covering screen size, projection clarity, and immersive audio standards rather than a single branded chain like IMAX. Tickets went on sale July 20, 2026, exclusively for Infinity Vision-certified theatres, with wider availability to follow.
Infinity Vision certification does not automatically answer the IMAX question. Specific IMAX confirmation would need to come from IMAX Corporation directly.
Avengers: Secret Wars, the follow-up, is dated for December 17, 2027, per Marvel's official slate.
What Fans Waiting on Deadpool Should Know
The public cast page is the safest source for confirmed names and Reynolds is not on it. That could change with a future announcement, a deliberate marketing hold, or a post-credits element Marvel has chosen not to publicise. The trade record on this specific question is split: one major outlet reported Deadpool is in the film, another reported he is not. Reynolds himself has not confirmed it and said he had not filmed anything as of the statements available to date.
The film opens December 18, 2026.
